As many residents of Sleepy Hollow know, the RSHM LIFE Center is one of the jewels of this community. Through its after school programs, funded in part by Kids’ Club, approximately 120 children from kindergarten through fifth grade enjoy a safe place to go every afternoon to study, play and learn. Thirteen teachers and four volunteers are on hand to assist with assigned homework, but also to enrich the students with additional lessons in geography, math, social studies, literacy and more.
For a second year, the LIFE Center has arranged for a weekly visit from The Good Dog Foundation (www.thegooddogfoundation.org) so that the children can practice their reading skills by reading aloud to Callie and her handler. With over 90% of the LIFE Center students speaking English as their second language, it is a wonderful opportunity to build their confidence reading and speaking English. Good job!
