10,000 Diapers were collected! thanks to generous friends who attended our first ever diaper drive at the home of Kids’ Club volunteer Shiloh Mackey.
Did you know that the cost of diapers is not covered by food stamps? When Kids’ Club Board Member Anita Suchdeo learned this, she suggested we host a diaper drive, so “Nappies for Neighbors” was created. Over 40 friends stopped by to drop off diapers, and many stayed to mingle and learn more about Kids’ Club, while enjoying tea sandwiches and yogurt parfaits. The diapers were distributed to three of our grantees: Smart Babies, Smart Toddlers, and Open Door Family Medical Centers.
Smart Babies teacher Roscio Minchalo thanked Kids’ Club for their ongoing support of the early learning and literacy programs Smart Babies (now in it’s third year) and Smart Toddlers (added this year). Alisha Blanks and Rhina Ledesma, of the Open Door Women Infant Child (WIC) nutrition support program were also in attendance. Alisha described the early intervention services provided by Open Door, which are crucial to helping new mothers and babies get a healthy start.
Special thanks to co-hosts Shiloh and Anita and to everyone who helped to make this inaugural effort a tremendous success.
