Who doesn’t like to hang with friends, eat pizza and watch a movie on a Friday night? Not too many. And thanks to the Shames JCC on the Hudson and the Tarrytown School District (“TUFSD”), special needs teens have the perfect place to do just this. As part of the JCC’s Keepin’ It Real in the Neighborhood program, on Friday nights program participants gather at the Neighborhood House in Tarrytown with peer interns/mentors from TUFSD’s SHADE program to cook, eat, play games and socialize. The model apartment there provides a fantastic opportunity for the youth to learn independent living skills, while the social interaction with peers from Sleepy Hollow High School is a vital way for the youth to connect with other members of their community. Kids’ Club is proud to provide financial support to this warm and spirited “Friday Night Drop-In” program.
