After the summer of 2020’s pandemic lockdown, it has been especially joyous for LIFE Center students to enjoy their beloved Summer Camp once again this year. As of last week, elementary school-aged children returned to the familiarity and fun of in-person, full-day camp with their friends. Planned activities include arts & crafts, scavenger hunts and other games (such as four square and water balloons) at the Beekman Avenue facility, field trips (including ones to the Liberty Science Center and Bronx Zoo) and swim days at the Mariandale pool. And at the end of each week, campers write, produce and post a video highlighting the week’s activities.
Kids’ Club is so glad to have helped make this program accessible to even more campers this summer. As elaborated by Sr. Susan Gardella, Executive Director of RSHM LIFE Center:
“[Kids’ Club’s] grant is enabling parents to move forward with their summer planning. Almost one third of the children were not initially registered for Camp; and when our instructors reached out, parents spoke of tight household budgets that did not have room for camp tuition. For these parents, the financial assistance Kids’ Club has granted is a relief and a gift; enabling them to provide the fun, camaraderie, exposure and comfort of camp for their children.”
Have a great summer, kids!
