A production of the Disney classic, Aladdin, was a welcome sight for sore eyes on April 7th at Washington Irving School, which had been missing on-stage productions due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This WI Theater production was coordinated by the Tarrytown Music Hall Academy on site at WI, with funding support from Kids’ Club. As one delighted parent shared, “We are so grateful to Kids’ Club and the Music Hall for finally bringing in-person arts enrichment programs back to the schools! Our kids have received this with open arms! They needed this more than many of us realize!”
Direction and Instruction for Aladdin were provided by KJK Productions Theater Camp of Yorktown. 42 cast members in 3rd, 4th & 5th grades rotated in small groups through Spoken Lines, Song Vocals, and Dance Routines workshops for 2-3 hours daily over 8 days. Multiple actors were assigned to each character part, allowing for multiple leads and sharing the spotlight. Eight additional students trained for stage crew and production roles. Day nine concluded with a WI school assembly performance and then the evening performance for the public. Bravo to all involved!
