On October 27, with support from Kids’ Club, Latino U College Access and the SHHS Guidance Department collaborated on a financial aid information session for Spanish-speaking families. It took place in the SHHS Auditorium this year, instead of the High School Library to ensure better social distancing during the presentation. On November 3rd, they then presented “FAFSA 101”, a community information session “where students and families learned how to make their college dreams affordable.” High School Principal Deborah Brand was on hand to help greet the families and answer questions. This was followed by virtual 1-on-1 appointments on November 4th and 10th for families needing more assistance in completing their so important FAFSA applications which are used by colleges to determine financial aid eligibility.
It was wonderful to have sessions in person again and to have a great turnout of parents interested in helping their children take the next step in their education!
