It was in June 2009 that the idea for Kids’ Club was first sparked. The Boys & Girls Club of Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow was closing, and dozens of children who had planned on attending summer camp there were about to be left without any summer activities. Those of us who were on the B&GC Advisory Board could not walk away from the children. Kids’ Club founders Theresa Kilman, Laureen Barber, Linda Viertel and others worked closely with Westchester County and Tarrytown Village officials to secure funding for those children to receive scholarships to the Village of Tarrytown’s Day Camp. And with that, the concept of an organization that could help “find, fund and facilitate programs for underserved youth in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow” was born.
In this month’s newsletter, which you can access here https://mailchi.mp/fa324e1171e2/celebrating-10-years, Kids’ Club shares how we intend to celebrate this happy milestone, as well as celebrating our local graduating seniors, many of whom have benefited from numerous Kids’ Club supported programs during these past ten years. We also thank Darron Copeland of Graphique Couture in Stamford, CT who helped us kick off our tenth year with a great new look! He helped us create the new logo you see above. We love the way it alludes to our own Sleepy Hollow lighthouse and our mission to help light the way for our local youth as they pursue their goals.
